Giraffe News – October 14, 2016

What’s New This Week?

Wow, what a busy and fun week we had in the Giraffe Class! In an effort to keep everyone at PCP safe each class practiced three safety drills: Fire, Earthquake, and Lockdown. Our friends in the Giraffe class completed each drill with great listening ears and quick feet. We are so proud of their swift efforts.

This week had a lot of firsts in it. We began our curriculum with Handwriting without Tears, Frog Street Press, and the Bible stories.

The children explored the letter “F” by being fire fighters and painting with foil, fall vegetables, and fall colors. At the writing center the students used the Handwriting without Tears tools to put together letters with wooden pieces and the stamp and see screens. If you come by the classroom, be sure to say “Hello” to our new friend “Scaredy” the Scarecrow.

The students each had a hand in putting him together and deciding upon a name for him. Gracie, also, went home for the first time this week. The children enjoyed hearing about all the fun things Gracie experienced. Fall Festival Week was full of fun activities for the children. Each Giraffe friend enjoyed the cookies they made on Tuesday, crayon melting, exploring open pumpkins, mixing shades of orange paint, and picking their very own pumpkin. We hope to see you tomorrow at the Country Fair. The Nature Hut will be open, come and explore.

Thank you to our Parent Helpers!

A huge thank you to Kellan’s grandma, Marianne, for taking all of our dress-up clothes and stuffed animals home to be washed.

Another huge thank you to Zachary’s mom, Susie, for helping us make pumpkin cookies for Fall Festival Week. Also, to Susie and Daniel’s mom, Jung-eun, for helping with crayon melting on Friday.

Mystery Readers surprised the Giraffe class this week with amazing stories! We want to thank Kolton’s mom, Lori, and Camila’s mom, Jessica, for helping us begin this very entertaining activity in the class.

Nature Hut News

This week in the Nature Hut we painted with real pumpkins, discussed what is in a pumpkin, and what are some things we can do with pumpkins other than carve them. The children also measured scooped and examined beans in the sensory table. The plants got some much needed watering as well.  It was a fun intro to our Pumpkin Patch and Fall Festival!

DKZ News

After all the clouds filled up with water droplets last week the rain came down in DKZ.  The children enjoyed making rain sticks, rain painting, and doing crayon reset art.  We are still observing how long it’s going to take our water in a cup to evaporate and make its way back up to the clouds.  We found out how many water droplets a cotton ball can hold until it starts to rain.
